It's every author's dream: get your book picked up by an agent, sell at auction for tens of thousands of dollars, and become the envy of all your friends. But even when everything seems right, there are a million things that can go wrong – and David Goodner is here to tell a cautionary tale of what really goes on behind the golden curtain.
This is a special event for us at the DFW Writers Workshop. Before David became our breakout success story, he was a mild-mannered librarian by day - who became a dice-rolling, fantasy-novel-writing, staying-up-way-too-late-gaming bibliophilic arch-nerd by night.
Then he brought his love of orcs, dwarves, and dragons to an idle side-project: a children's picture book called Ginny Goblin Is Not Allowed to Open This Box. Nobody was more surprised than David when Ginny Goblin was first snatched up by agent Stephen Barr, then sparked a frenzied bidding war between the biggest publishers in the business, before finally selling in a two-book five-figure deal to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Take it from those of us who know him best: come meet David while you have the chance, because we guarantee you will not want to wait in his autographing line!
NOTE: We're in room A206 at North Lake College, and will follow the class with a social hour in the adjoining art gallery. Click here for campus directions - reference photos included!
