 Time Meeting called to Order:  6:12 p.m.

Tristan has stepped down as director of social media for personal reasons. Tom Bont and Katie Bernet were both eligible for a board vote to replace him, but Tom Bont has stepped aside.

Katie Bernet will be taking the position of director of social media.

Membership update: We have 175 members. Brooke suggested that John contact Nation Builder to help clean up the membership list.

Philanthropy update:  Kunhz

Fort Worth Book Festival, October 12 - 14: We have an exhibitor table on October 14. Stacey will assign topics to the eight panelists. She’s also going to find a few people to represent the table.

Indie Author Day, October 14: The official proposal went out on September 6. The opportunity to sell books comes at no cost.  We will be helping at the Fort Worth Downtown event or the Dallas Downtown Library event. Coppell Library asked about getting some support from the DFWWW, but we haven’t decided if we’ll be partnering with them.

Nanowrimo: We have two commitments for the four corners write-ins. Candace suggested that we do a write-in in Arlington.  Stacey would like to have an Instagram for our organization, not just the conference, so we can promote the write-ins, and we’ll also have a flyer that includes the dates and locations of all of those events.

Taking Donations and Membership fees: We discussed whether using the “square” would be a more convenient way to charge people’s credit cards. Board members are researching the costs associated.

DFW Con: Steve

Jason, Brooke and Steve need to have a conversation on the keynote. No other news.

North Texas Giving Day, September 14: Candice

We will post notices regarding the event on the official DFWWW workshop page, and some of our donations will go to a Hurricane Harvey fund. We’ll have some advance notice to members starting the Monday before the event. On the day of the event, there’s an opportunity to represent the workshop from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. in Sundance Square, which might also give us some exposure on TV.

Candice will put together 1) the copy for the official email Monday morning, 2) copy for a 140 character tweet, 3) copy for the Facebook post, (each day we do a social media blitz) and 4) create a banner for the website.

Writer’s Bloc: Tex Thompson

We determined that we can’t do a Nanowrimo write-in at Interabang because they don’t have the tabling for that, although we can have speakers in this venue.

October: This is a busy month for writing events, which means getting air time for our Writer’s Bloc will be tough. The group decided to have our Writer’s Bloc occur at this year’s Fort Worth Bookfest, during which we highlight the DFWWW upcoming events. Tex will advertise the panel titles as Writer’s Bloc events.

November: We will no longer have a NanoWrimo write-in on Saturday, November 18. Instead, we are having a speaker at Interabang on Sunday, November 12. Tex is going to look into picking the speaker and will send a list to Brooke and Steve for their review. Tex will then approach those about speaking at Interabang. Since Interabang closes at 6:00 p.m., we’re planning the event from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. so that we have some dedicated time after hours.

Our videographer is a Northlake employee, and we’d have to do something extra to get him to video in that space.

Action item: We will have a table at all the Writer’s Blocs so that people can approach and ask about our organization or DFWcon. The following board members will staff on the following dates:

Membership report: We have 175 members.


Writer’s Bloc: these are free classes offered by the Workshop. We have dates locked down: September 23, October 14 at the Fort Worth Bookfest, November 12, and December 9. Don’t forget that members have free access to recordings of Writer’s Bloc through our website.


Financial report: We have moved to Quick books. We have $83,539.53. Last year at this time we had $76,114.


Announcement: Tristan had to step down as Social Media Director, so Katie Bernet is the new Social Media Director.

  • The DFWWW will be a big presence at the Fort Worth Bookfest. If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, October 14, please come and be an active participant at the festival.


  • Houston is still underwater. We’ve reached out to the Harris County Library Association and we’ll be collecting money soon.
  • October 14 is Indie Author Day (the same day as the FW book festival). Go if you can.
  • Larry Enmon needs suggestions from members. His book is being published November 1, and he needs some publicity before the post. He’s looking for advice on how to market in the UK.
  • Next Thursday is North Texas Giving Day, so stay tuned to your social media for opportunities to donate to DFWWW. You’ll be getting something as early as Monday of next week.
  • Harry Hall announced that he connected with an Olympic Track and Field gold medalist who is looking for someone to ghost write his autobiography.
  • Roseanne and Antonia reminded the group that this Saturday is the big 40th anniversary party. Please buy tickets by midnight tonight.
