presented by the Writers Guild of Texas
Congratulations! You've finished your first 500,000-word adult fantasy steampunk mystery romance novel! But wait. Novels, even adult fantasy/science fiction, generally cap out at 150,000 words (and have a max of two genres, but we can cover that later…). What will you do? Every word of your precious baby is absolutely necessary, right? Nope. Presented by the Writers Guild of Texas
Starting with the big picture and drilling down to individual words, this class will help you with the first, dreaded, initial cut of a first draft. We will explore world-building and backstory, recognizing info dumps and how to avoid them using POV, choosing scenes that work for your story, and positions of emphasis on word placement. You will learn what words, scenes, and even chapters need to be left on that cutting room floor!
As a bonus, you will get resources to continue the editing process to turn your cranky baby into a smooth, polished debutante, ready for self-publishing or sending out to agents!
