Announcements April 27th
Down to business.
Kirk updated us on the Teen Workshop. Thanks to everyone who has shown interest. There is a meeting before to discuss the workshop before the meeting on May 4th. If you're interested in volunteering, email Kirk.
The Board has approved a rate change to be voted on by the Workshop on the June 1st business meeting. The change would get rid of the prorated payment. Members will pay $100 every year, regardless of when they joined.
As this is a change to the bylaws, the proposed change will be made available to members to peruse at their leisure.
We will vote on room names at the next meeting.
Donna will be out for 2-3 months beginning May 20th. The board has divided up her duties. If you have any questions or concerns, contact a board member, or 2nd Vice President Kate.

Announcements April 20
Greetings!
This Wednesdays announcements are as follows:
We have started applying for grants. If you would like to volunteer for this process, please contact Donna.
Director Kirk Von Der Heydt would like to start a teen writers' workshop. We need volunteers to help determine what that would entail and what would be the best way of accomplishing it. If you are interested in helping out, speak with Kirk before the regular meeting or during the break. We appreciate your assistance.
We will vote on room names the first meeting of May. Please make sure someone has your room name suggestion, or it will not be listed on the ballot. Write it down and give it to a board member to be included.

Last night was a business meeting. If you would like the Treasurer's Report, please contact Donna.
Jennifer Duggins will lead our grant committee. We could still use a few research volunteers. Let us know if you are interested.
We voted on and approved two new members of the board last night:

The fearless leaders welcome you to our cadre.
Candace Havens has a book signing on April 16th at 2pm at Barnes & Noble in Lewisville. Come and offer support. A small group plans to meet at Mimi's Cafe across the street from the Barnes & Noble at 12:30pm before the signing. All are welcome.
Make sure to check the bulletin board for announcements, contests, and writing opportunities.
We are still taking suggestions for room names. Please send them in.

Announcements March 30th
We have lost a director. Kirk Von Der Heydt has volunteered for the position. According to the bylaws, Kirk must be approved by the membership. We will be voting on Kirk at the next business meeting which just so happens to be next week, April 6th.
Candace Havens' She Who Dares, Wins drops on April 1st. Be sure to check out her website for more info.
She has a book signing on April 16th at 2 pm at Barnes and Noble in Lewisville.
Do you know how to use Google? Would you like to help the Workshop? Good. We knew you would. The Workshop now has a grant committee looking for three or four volunteers to help research grants we can apply for. This is a research position, not a grant writing position.
Contact Kate Cornell or Donna Lasko if you are interested.
We have four rooms in our new building that need names. We are leaving it up to the members to generate possibilities. Harken, creative writers! Give us some ideas.
Send Kate Cornell or Donna Lasko your brilliance.
I'm still taking blog ideas. I've got some good'ins which will be discussed (fleetingly) during next week's announcements.
You can always comment on this post, send a message to us on Twitter, or hit our Facebook fan page.

Fall's moderate temperatures drove in a large number of attendees at the October 13 meeting of the DFW Writers' Workshop. Or maybe it was the terrific read-and-critique sessions.
In the news, A. Lee Martinez displayed the mass-market paperback cover of his newest novel, Devine Misfortunes. An editor with Kingston Publishers requested Kirk von der Heydt's full manuscript. Kenneth Ingle displayed his recently released fourth book, To Kill a Thief. Rosemary Clement-Moore has a book signing this Saturday, October 16, at 11 a.m. at the Weekend Reader Book Shop in Balch Springs.
In other news, President Russell Connor reminded everyone to bring yummy treats on October 27 to celebrate the 300 traditionally published books written by DFWWW authors. Michelle O'Neal invited everyone to visit the newly updated website for the 2011 DFW Writers' Conference. With a full list of agents and editors, and an impressive lineup of speakers, the conference is shaping up to be an event you don't want to miss.
