Pamela Skjolsvik story “In the Pink” is being produced by the DFW Film Lab.
Richard Young was accepted to participate in a Federal program to deliver more efficient healthcare. He was the only physician in Texas asked to participate. Jim Landy interviewed him for an article in the Dallas Morning News.
Rosemary Clement-Moore will be the guest speaker at the Yellow Rose RWA on Saturday January 14th from 10am to 12:00. The meeting is held at the City of Grapevine – Merlot Room, 4500 Merlot Avenue, Grapevine, TX. She will be teaching ‘Method Writing’ which uses actor’s tools to enrich your writing. Carmen Goldthwaite announced Chicken Soup for the Soul is calling out for essays on Hockey, either fans or players. She also announced she has two openings in her class held on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 10pm at her house. See www.carmengoldthwaite.com for more details.

YES! The Trophy Room Will Keep Growing. Three DFWWW Authors Sell Books
Five visitors joined a standing-room only crowd at the November 10 meeting of the Workshop.
It seemed as if the news and announcements would never end. Candace Havens delivered her newest book, Turn and Dare, to Harlequin. A. Lee Martinez' newest novel, Catching the Moon, was accepted by Orbit. Delacorte accepted Rosemary Clement-Moore's newest work, Texas Gothic, and the book is already available for pre-order at Amazon.com.
Del Cain reported a successful event at the Saginaw Public Library last week. Russell Connor and A. Lee Martinez appeared, along with Rosemary Clement-Moore who was the keynote speaker. This weekend, Rosemary will appear at Readers & 'ritas in Allen, with Candace Havens as the Master of Ceremonies. Also this Saturday, A. Lee Martinez has a book signing at 2 p.m. at the Borders in Burleson.
Finally, President Russell Connor thanked a wide variety of volunteers who unselfishly give of their time each week. Harry Hall who arrives early to set up the building and to make coffee; Eric Dixon who never fails to monitor one of the read-and-critique rooms; former President Stephen Manning who assists the Board in making the hard decisions; and Jeff Posey, Jason Myers and Michelle O'Neal who work on the annual writers' conference.
Thank you everyone who contributes in some way. As a non-profit, all volunteer organization it takes all of us to keep DFWWW functioning.

Even a Hurricane Can't Stop DFWWW Members from Meeting
Despite the torrential downpour the remnants of Hurricane Hermine dumped on North Texas, five visitors joined a large group of dedicated DFWWW members at the September 8 meeting.
In the news, John Sanders received a partial request from literary agent Jenny Bent. Barbara Bennett sold a short memoir titled "After Juanito's Visit" to the magazine Abandoned Towers. Secretary Kyle White reminded everyone that payment of the 2010-2011 fiscal year dues begins October 1. Daryle McGinnis asked members to bring folding chairs to the members-only party to be held on Friday, September 24 to welcome TOR editor Paul Stevens.
Finally, conference co-chairperson Jason Myers read the names of a few of the 18 editors and agents coming to the 2011 DFW Writers' Conference. Attendees are encouraged to register early to secure a pitch session.

Agent Representation, a Book Signing & the 2011 DFW Writers' Conference Fill the News

He also has a book signing this Saturday, August 7th, at 3 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble in Denton. Jason Myers received a partial request for his novel Mayhem Inc. from agent Anthony Mattero. Kristen Lamb announced she signed with Gina Panettieri of the Talcott Notch Literary Services. Also, Kristen donated a copy of her recent release, We Are Not Alone: The Writer's Guide to Social Media, to the Workshop's Trophy Room. Carolyn Williams displayed a new reference book for the library.

The Summer Heat Doesn't Stop DFWWW Members from Submitting and Selling
Summertime typically means lower attendance at the Workshop, but not this year as good-sized crowds have continued to pack the building. The July 14 meeting was no exception with four visitors joining the already large group.

Paula Laroque announced that the Marion Street Press has bought her series, "The Ben Gallagher Mysteries", for a new line of imprints. The first title, Chalk Line, should be released in September 2011.
Finally, Larry Enmon gave a stirring talk on the importance of delivering detailed and informative critiques. Members, both established and new, enjoyed a reminder that we're all here to help one another.

A Two-Book Deal, an Agent Request and a Contest Winner Fill the News
The June 23 meeting of the DFW Writers' Workshop was full of momentous news from several people.
Leading the pack, Rosemary Clement-Moore announced she's signed a two-book deal with her publisher, Random House. Jason Myers received a partial request for his manuscript, Mayhem Inc., from literary agent Robert Thixton. Merris Doud won second place in the Brazos Writers' Writing Contest in the category of memoir / personal essay. Writer's Digest has contracted with Kyle White to write a feature-length article on the use of social networking to land an agent or secure a book deal.
Finally, members were reminded of the vote to be held on Wednesday, July 7 to amend the Workshop's Bylaws. Also, Larry Enmon encouraged new members to pick up a copy of a pamphlet titled 20 Hints for Workshop Critiques for an upcoming class on the subject.

In official business, Jeri Burbage reported that both the Workshop and the Conference bank accounts are in the black. Russell Connor and Kyle White introduced two proposed amendments to the By-laws. One would change the start of the fiscal year from January to October, and the other would protect member's personal information. These proposals will be posted for 30-days, and then voted on at the July business meeting.
In other news, Julian Harber donated a copy of his novel A Nail in the Body of Christ. Joyce Holland of the D4EO Literary Agency requested Jason Myers' full manuscript. Pat Hauldren was a guest blogger at SavvyAuthors.com.

The April 28th meeting of the DFW Writers' Workshop saw a good turnout, which included five visitors and four new members.

Ginnie Bouvier received an invitation from agent Eleanor Jackson of the Markson Thoma Literary Agency to visit their offices in New York City for "a brainstorming session". Kenneth Ingle will speak at the Hurst Library Association on Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m. Also this Saturday, A. Lee Martinez has a book signing for his newest release Devine Misfortune at Lone Star Comics in Dallas from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Finally, the executive committee for the 2011 DFW Writers' Conference was announced. Among his many other hats, chairperson Jeff Posey will handle marketing. Co-chair Jason Myers will invite the agents and editors. Michelle O'Neal will invite the speakers. Jeri Burbage will serve as treasurer, and Stephen Manning will coordinate registration.
As always, a dedicated family of DFWWW volunteers will be needed for a multitude of other tasks to be announced later.
