Meeting begins: 7:02pm 

 

Visitors: Margot writes nonfiction and she found out about us through Michelle.

Tara Kay, writes faith-based non fiction and middle grade, and she is here because of Helen Dent.

 

New Members: N/A

 

Announcements: Rebecca Seifert said first potluck will be on Feb. 14th, and there will be a sweet reads room. She asked people to bring food for the potluck. 

 

Sally Hamilton said on Feb 28th we will meet in the library.

 

Karen Ferrel is giving out versions of her book with the bad cover.

 

Harry Hall recommended the TV series “The Power of Film” as a resource for storytelling.

 

Mark Dye said that Laura Dupuy lost her uncle unexpectedly and he brought a sympath card for people to sign.

 

Matthew Rollins announced that the remote marketing firm for which he works is looking for writers.

 

Rejections: None

 

Submissions: Sarah Mensinga submitted “All My Pencils” to her publisher.

 

Acceptances: Carolyn Rae said that someone in the film business was interested in a movie proposal for her book “Searching for Justice.”

 

Book Reviews: Kay Goodnight reviewed Ron Soul’s middle-grade book. 

 

BJ Sloan reviewed “Tattoo Collector” by Dan Hawkins.

Announcements: 

Rebecca Seifert announced the Valentine’s potluck and sweet reads

Sarah Mensinga said this Saturday there is a children’s book writers and illustrators meeting at the Denton Public Library North Branch from 10-11:30

Allen Crowley said a book he contributed to is releasing Sunday called “Future Visions: How to Survive and Thrive For the Upcoming Economic Singularity” 

Sally Hamilton reminded us that on Feb. 28th we will have our meeting at the Grapevine Library 

 

Rejections: Mark Dye, hasn’t heard back after three months from a submission 

John Bartell, elevator book was rejected by an agent,

 

Submissions: J.B. Sanders submitted a short story to his agent, and she submitted it to Every Queen’s Mystery Magazine 

 

Acceptances: N/A

 

Book Reviews: Carolyn Rae reviewed “The Magic Heart” on Amazon and Goodreads by Ron Soul

Visitors: John McNeal, new to Texas, has been self-published, heard about it through Daryl 

 

? (could not catch name) writes short stories, found us online 

 

Lauren, writing a Greek mythology retelling, and she found us online 

 

Calley, writes about travel, found us online 

 

Kathy, writing fantasy, found us online 

 

New Members: Kaitlyn, fantasy and speculative fiction, became a new member

 

Rejections: J.B. Sanders submitted a short story called “The Coin,” and they said they enjoyed it, but it wasn’t right for them 

 

Lauren Lanza-Osias got her first rejection for “The Hollow” and a half rejection from an agent who recommended the book to someone else in the agency 

 

Submissions: Lauren Lanza-Osias submitted her book five more times 

 

David Jace submitted a short story to an anthology about AI 

 

Acceptances: N/A 

 

Book reviews: J.B. Sanders reviewed Ron Soul’s “Emerald City” on Amazon 

 

Dan Hawkins reviewed “The Big Finish” by Brooke Fossey 

 

Larry Enmon reviewed “The Oxygen Farmer” by Colin Holmes 

 

Announcements: J.B. Sanders had a book cover release for his new book 

 

Rebecca Seifert reminded everyone about potluck and sweet reads 

 

Shawn Warner said he has a release date and a cover for his next book “Homeland Insecurity” coming out June 4th 

 

Dan Hawkins, book coming out Feb. 6th called “The Tattoo Collector” doing a book signing on the 10th at Monkey and Dog Books

 

Sally Hamilton said next week will be the business meeting, officers will meet at the library, 

Leigh, the librarian at Grapevine Public Library, wants to know if we know anybody who would be interested in ghostwriting a book 

 

Brian Tracey said we will have the conference Oct. 4-6th registration should open in 2-3 weeks $299 for members

 

Helen Dent will order name badges

Meeting Begins: 7:03 pm 

 

BJ Sloan gave officers the treasurer's report of funds in accounts. 

 

Rebecca Seifert reminded people of the first potluck and asked people to bring some food and sweet reads. 

 

Helen Dent gave a membership report of 145 current members; she shared the change in the name badge policy, they will now cost $12 starting in March. 

 

Sarah Mensinga announced restarting the speaker's bureau and the need for speakers, and the summer teen read and critique and the need for volunteers.

 

Brian Tracey gave a media report and announced conference registration opening on Monday and early bird prices.

 

Sally Hamilton moved to close the business meeting at 7:08 pm. 

 

General meeting began at 7:08 pm.

Lauren Michaelson, writing a book, and found out through Matthew Rollins. 

 

Grace Methea, heard about us through ?, writing a book.

 

New Members: 

 

Brandon, writes controversial pieces.

 

Kathleen, visited last week, and she joined, writing a fantasy. 

 

Nehi, visited last week, and became a member.

Carolyn Rae got a book rejection.

 

John Bartell, got a poetry book rejected.

 

Karoline Chapman got a query rejection.

 

Sally Hamilton got a rejection from a magazine for a short story submission.

John Bartell submitted two poems to a journal.

 

Kate resubmitted chapters to a writing festival. 

 

Laruen Danhof submitted a big foot short story to an anthology.

 

Sally Hamilton submitted to Clark’s World.

Dan Hawkins reviewed “Murder So Foul” by Larry Enmon. 

 

J.B. Sanders reviewed Dan Hawkin’s “The Tattoo Collector “

 

Announcements: 

 

Harry Hall said one of his books is getting worked on for a film. 

 

Dan Hawkins will be doing a book signing for “The Tattoo Collector” this Saturday at 4pm. 

 

Grant Gargagliano said this is his last night at the workshop since he’s moving to Iowa for school and wanted to thank the mentors for his writing.
