  • 1 blog post last month
  • 1 blog post scheduled for this month
  • Kara Connelley volunteers for a blog post in July
  • The DFWCon Inner Circle Facebook group remains very active

Membership- Rosemary Clement

  • 179 members, of which 5 are paying monthly
  • Monthly memberships by in-person payment are a huge effort in bookkeeping.
  • *Monthly memberships are supposed to be web-based only.  We want the auto-pay, so people are a little less likely to just pay $10 on months they want to read and never otherwise.
  • One of our members has been abusive during critique.  If this continues, he may need to be removed. This opens us to potential liability.
    • There is an Ethics Committee outlined in the bylaws for just such occasions.
    • The new Executive Board may supersede the Ethics Committee for such situations.
    • We are tabling the issue for now.

Philanthropy- Stacey Khunz via Brooke Fossey

  • The next big event is the Fort Worth Book Festival.  Stacey is heading up our representation. Vendor tables are $40.  We are not electing to purchase one.

DFWCon Report- Steve Manning via Brooke Fossey

  • Matt Fossey did a full consult on the conference.  His input has been applied to the current event pricing.
  • Jeremy Ellis of Interabang Books is helping acquire a keynote speaker, if we can guarantee book sales.
  • Per the bylaws, if the Conference doesn't make $20,000 the board has to vote on whether to hold another conference the following year.
    • Proposal: Move forward with the 2018 DFWCon.  Unanimously approved.

North Texas Giving Day - Candice Watson

  • September 14.  Donations are open on the 7th.
  • Charities can compete for several awards.  One is a Business/Charity alliance.  Candice will approach IHOP, since we've been eating there for about 10 years and they like us.
  • There's a bigger Social Media push this year.  Candice has plans to increase member involvement

Writers Bloc- Tex Thompson via Brooke Fossey

  • Google Hangouts have changed so they're not working for us this year
  • Writers Bloc is going on hiatus for the summer
  • Programs will resume in the fall at Interabang Books

Financial Report- Karen Farrell

  • $89,450.06 in all accounts
  • $20,000 in Conference expenses last month
  • Net $4000 YTD loss for the year
  • Liability Insurance renews in August.  Karen has the necessary documentation

Teen Workshop- Rosemary Clement

  • Proposal: A 1-day workshop in 2018, led by Rosemary Clement.  Unanimously approved.

Executive Meeting- Brooke Fossey

  • Goals: Establish Executive Board.  Create real budget.
  • Once our financials are entered in QuickBooks, we will schedule this meeting

ArlingCon- Rosemary Clement

  • Two events
  • *Read and Critique workshop
  • *Panel on Storytelling
  • APLS has requested that we include a web comic creator they know.

40th Anniversary- Brooke Fossey

  • 15 tickets sold
  • Caterer and location locked in
  • Rosemary and Antonia want someone to create a slideshow
  • We're considering an alcohol drive.  We can't sell alcohol at the venue, but we can serve it.  We have wine, but would like a wider selection of adult libations
